The art of porcelain painting spans the centuries and has been practiced since the 6th century A.D. By the 1100's, the secret had spread from China to Korea, then to Japan nearly 400 years later. Active trade between Europe and Asia soon created a high demand for this fine art that has captivated generations of people around the world. Today, artists are carrying on in the ancient tradition of crafting beautiful, hand painted porcelain. Porcelain art is created by mixing dry paint pigment with oils, such as clove, and painting with brush and pen on any porcelain surface. The piece is then kiln fired before yet another layer of paint is added. Each piece may be fired up to 8 times.
